Integration of -omics data and networks for biomedical research with VANTED
More and more often research focus in the fields of biology and medicine moves from the investigation of single phenomena to the analysis of complex cause and effect relations. The clarification of complicated relations requires the consideration of different domains, for instance, gene expression, protein, and metabolite data. Furthermore, it is often sensible not to analyze measured data in i...
متن کاملA Qualitative Needs Assessment of Biomedical Research Training Course
Introduction: The expansion and development of biomedical sciences and their complexity and specialization have brought about the need for training competent specialists to carry out research in this field. The present study aimed to perform a needs assessment and determine the objectives of biomedical research training course. Methods: This qualitative needs assessment was carried out through...
متن کاملProviding Experiential Business and Management Training for Biomedical Research Trainees
Many biomedical PhD trainees lack exposure to business principles, which limits their competitiveness and effectiveness in academic and industry careers. To fill this training gap, we developed Business and Management Principles for Scientists, a semester-long program that combined didactic exposure to business fundamentals with practical team-based projects aimed at solving real business probl...
متن کاملBiomedical Event Extraction without Training Data
We describe our system for the BioNLP 2009 event detection task. It is designed to be as domain-independent and unsupervised as possible. Nevertheless, the precisions achieved for single theme event classes range from 75% to 92%, while maintaining reasonable recall. The overall F-scores achieved were 36.44% and 30.80% on the development and the test sets respectively.
متن کاملBreast Cancer Prognostics Using Multi-Omics Data
Breast cancer affects one in eight women in America and is a leading cause of death from cancer worldwide. In the current study, four types of Omics data including copy number variation, gene expression, proteome and phosphoproteome were collected from seventy-seven breast cancer patients. Individual types of Omics data were used to separately construct predictive models to predict ten-year sur...
